If you’re seeking a bucket-list adventure, Mosquito Bay—also known as the Vieques Bio Bay—is a must-visit. Celebrated as the brightest bioluminescent bay in the world, this natural wonder will mesmerize you with neon blue-green waters brought to life by millions of glowing microorganisms. From personal experience this is one of the top things I have experienced in my life. Try and go as close after a new moon as you can! Different people will see different colors in the water, some blue, white, or green. Taking photos is pretty difficult but our attempt is below. We recommend going with the clear kayaks for the best experience!

What Makes Mosquito Bay So Unique? ✨

  • A Natural Illumination Sensation
Millions of dinoflagellates (Pyrodinium bahamense) inhabit the bay, emitting a stunning glow when disturbed. At peak concentration, up to 1–2 million per gallon can be present
  • Guinness Record & Global Recognition
In 2006, Mosquito Bay was crowned the World’s Brightest Bioluminescent Bay by Guinness, and Condé Nast Traveler later named it one of the “Seven Wonders of the World” discoverpuertorico.com+1puertoricoactivities.com+1thevalemagazine.com.
  • Protected and Pristine
